Among the returning programming, thanks to South Restaurants, are the Kids Makers Markets - a monthly invitation to kids 18 and under to attend the Market as vendors and sell their own (non-edible) creations! Also, thanks to generous donations from the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and Syndicate Smith, live music will return to the Market with a new headline: The Summer Music Series. Those contributions will also enable the Market to pay musicians roughly double what the budget allowed for in the past and improve equipment for the events.
The Market has already scheduled more than 45 vendors, including a number of local artists sponsored by Posy Handpicked Goods, so customers can expect a busy and full Market each Thursday from June 3 - October 14. The Market’s newest location at 330 Evans Street can accommodate its rapid growth and thanks to sponsorship from Munchen Haus, the Market is prepared to support more vendors.
The Market Board is grateful to continue its partnership with the Cascade School District (CSD) by remaining on School grounds; however, this season they are excited to be setting up in grass (instead of a parking lot) on the lawn of the CSD Administrative building next to the old Osborn Elementary School.
Grass, music, kids activities and hopefully some dinner options are all going to bring back the charm that makes our Community Farmers Market so special. The Market is really fortunate to have the support of our community, our sponsors, our School District, and our City, as they have all made it possible for us to persevere and continue to serve.
Many of you will remember that the Market was designated an essential service last year and allowed to open as scheduled despite the pandemic. The Market remains an essential service in 2021, serving EBT and P-EBT customers as well as Senior/WIC Nutrition Program recipients. In fact, thanks to the State Department of Health, all EBT and P-EBT customers are able to participate in SNAP Market Match where every dollar they redeem at the Market doubles in value, up to $40 - if a customer redeems $40 from their EBT account, they get $80 to spend at the Market.
Due to the nature of the Market and its customer base, the Market Board kindly requests that all customers continue to wear masks in the Market when not eating or drinking until further notice. We want to ensure that the Market is welcoming and accessible for all people, regardless of vaccination status, and we hope our community will join us in our efforts.
If you are interested in participating in the Market as a vendor, musician, or Kids Maker, you can apply via the Market website: leavenworthfarmersmarket.org/become-a-vendor. The Market is also still accepting Sponsors, you can become a Market Sponsor by emailing leavenworthmarket@gmail.com.
