Free snowmobile safety course is being offered

Posted

Safety first - so Chelan County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club have teamed up to open the chance for young snowmobilers to take a free Snowmobile Safety Certification Class.
It's routine to prepare a teen before they get behind the wheel for the first time by tossing a driver's manual in their lap and most parents don't forget to remind their child to put on a helmet before jumping on their bicycle - but it's just as imperative for young, somewhat fresh to operating a snowmobile to be comfortable with riding skills, hand signals and basic snowmobile maintenance.
The free Snowmobile Safety Certification Class teaches all of this and more (survival skills in case of emergency, proper clothing and equipment and how to prepare for a ride). It will also touch on being aware of not only fellow passerbyers, but wildlife and the environment as well. The course targets those between the ages of 12-16, however the class is open to all ages, according to the Press Release from Chelan County Sheriff's Office.
On Saturday, December 8 from 8-4, the safety course will be held at the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club. Lunch will be provided. There will be a riding skills test after the lesson. Registration is due December 6 and there is a guardian or parent consent form required.
