Quilting Group donates quilt to Leavenworth Rotary

The Stitching in Heels Quilting group had been meeting via zoom since last June 2020. We had formed a design team then designs were discussed and the final design was drafted by Althea Gyde. 

The quilt was divided into units and given out to our members, see names below, to construct by machine, then those units, like a big puzzle, were put together by the design team to complete the final layout. The three layers (quilt top, batting, back story) were put on the computerized Long Arm quilting machine belonging to Althea Gyde of Blue Heron Quilting and stitched together using the apple quilting pattern. The binding was put on by Lesley Allan and hand stitched on the back by Tamara DeZellum. 

 

The Central Washington Modern Quilt Guild is a “Modern” Quilt Guild in their primary year of existence and includes members from the greater Central Washington area. This year they are thrilled to have a Community quilt to show at "QuiltCon Together 2021", the largest international Modern quilt convention in the world. The quilt will be seen by thousands of viewers on their virtual quilt show, from Feb. 18-21, 2021. This quilt was designed for and will be presented to the Leavenworth Rotary Club. The gears and apples are reminiscent of the Rotary International logo and the Central Washington agricultural communities. The Central Washington Modern Quilt Guild members reside in the heart of Washington apple country. This original quilt is the product of a team effort from all the active members and the result is amazing! Each quilter made a signature block that is included in the "back story" of this quilt.

The quilt was presented to the Leavenworth Rotary Club by Aleesha Kobernik on January 29. The club will decide the final outcome of the quilt. It is their choice to keep it or use it as a raffle for fund raising or donate it to any cause of their choosing. The quilt is 66” x 86” and is 100% cotton.
