Small port seminar based locally in Leavenworth

Posted

Tourists hurriedly flocking to make it to the last Oktoberfest weekend were not the only ones visiting the Bavarian Village last week. The 2018 Small Ports Seminar was hosted this year at the Enzian Inn located on Highway 2. This is a yearly event that occurs every October, however this year the seminar was just a few steps away. On October 18 and October 19, the Enzian Inn was overrun with eager members of a variety of ports across Washington State ready to learn and participate in the seminar.
The seminar was directed at helping smaller ports, such as the Port of Chelan County, reach goals. Ports scattered across Washington, as close to home as Chelan County and Douglas County to stretching to places a little further like, South Whidbey Island. With 211 people in attendance along with 20 association member groups represented - there was a lot of give and take for the attendees to take notes and return home to better their individual ports. The opening remarks featured a brief sentiment from one of Chelan County's Commissioners, JC Baldwin and then the seminar launched into a variety of helpful points and notes.
During the two day long seminar, there was a variety of lectures and hands on activities for the groups to engage in learning how to better benefit the economic development of their concentrated areas. Several items on the agenda touched on preparing for emerging issues and discussing new resources along with going in depth on recent changes to Washington Law and what that means for managing procurement at ports.
The abundance of information and contact development at the seminar was intended to overlap with better benefitting the small ports across Washington State.
