Traffic Alert: Hay Canyon Road

Posted

Motorists will see some increased truck traffic and minor traffic delays in the area of Hay Canyon Road and Sunburst Lane during the week of April 6. The increased truck traffic will be due to not only the West Cashmere Bridge Replacement Project but also ongoing work by Chelan PUD.

The county's contractor for the bridge project will be removing contaminated soil from about 2 acres at the corner of Hay Canyon Road and Sunburst Lane, property the county purchased for the project. About 12 inches of topsoil will be removed and taken to the Waste Management landfill in East Wenatchee. The property is the site of a former orchard. The work may take up to two weeks. People in the area will see an excavator working as well as dump trucks traveling back and forth to the landfill.

Chelan PUD also will be working at the intersection, replacing electrical poles and wiring. The PUD has been working in the bridge's project area since January. The PUD project currently has moved to the Sunburst Lane area, where distribution lines are being moved underground. Motorists should plan for one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic in the work area. Please plan for minor traffic delays, or avoid the area if you can.

Work should take three to four days before the project moves further down Vale Road. More information about the PUD's project, including a map and timeline of the work, is on its website.
