Posted

The morning of December 24, while many of us were finishing last minute gift wrapping, on the 22000 Block of Alpine Drive in the Lake Wenatchee area there was a structure fire. According to a press release from Chelan County Sheriff's Office, Chelan County deputies along with Chelan County Fire Districts 3, 6 and 9 responded to a call regarding the fire at around 9:20 a.m.
Two males made it out of the fire safely, however it was indicated that there is still a third person unaccounted for - a female. During the process of fighting the fire, fire crews did locate an unidentified remains of a person. The victim has been identified as Christine Humphreys, according to Jason Reinfeld, chief of special operations at the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.
Reinfeld says that the cause of the fire is still under investigation and detectives have conducted interviews with the two residents that made it out of the fire. The initial call was at 9:21 and lasted until 1:06 p.m., according to Reinfeld.
"Putting out the fire took most of the day because our primary focus was recovering the victim and with weather conditions we just had to stay on top of it most of the day," said Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue Chief, Mick Lamar.
The fire caused a total loss and completely destroyed the home. Reinfeld said that there was some concrete and rock walls, but otherwise the structure is destroyed.
