Bonnie June Martinell (Bailey), longtime resident of Leavenworth, WA. passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019, she was 80 years old.
Bonnie was born on March 11,1938 in Port Townsend, WA. to Ewan and Ian Warfield (Wood), she was one of eight children. She grew up in Coyle, WA. and graduated from Quilcene High School in 1957. In 1958 she married Robert Bailey, and they lived briefly in Pacific Grove, CA., Hoodsport, WA., Corvallis, OR., and Lake Wenatchee, WA. before finally settling in Leavenworth, WA. in 1966. She had four children, two of which unfortunately passed at birth, and two she raised in Leavenworth, WA. In 1979 she met and married Wilbur Martinell. They were married for 30 years until his passing in 2009.
Bonnie worked at several different gift shops, but most notably at Kris Kringl, “where it’s Christmas all year long”, for nearly 10 years. We had more Christmas ornaments, than you can shake a stick at, when she retired in 1995. Bonnie loved the beauty of Washington, and most of all, Leavenworth. She spent a lot of her time walking and hiking. Her last hiking achievement was in 2003 when she hiked to Mount Rainier base camp at the age of 65. She also loved traveling, gardening, visiting with family and friends and being with her Dachshunds, Olga, Lucy, Calvin and Annie. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children Chris Bailey of Post Falls, ID. and Heidi Strasser of Henderson, NV.; Sisters Norma Smith, Sharon Card, Rosemary Williams, and Dianna Wiley; Brother Denny Warfield; Former spouse Robert Bailey; Longtime friends of 53 years, Jean Booth, Alayne Alexander and Eileen Wilcox. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death is her loving husband Wilbur Martinell; Daughter Petra Bailey; Son Mason Bailey; Brothers Glendon Warfield and Larry Warfield; and Parents Ewan and Ina Warfield.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Bonnie, will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 7920 East Leavenworth Road, Leavenworth, WA. 98826.
