City of Leavenworth has two prospective candidates for City Administrator position

After nearly six months without a city administrator, the City of Leavenworth is finalizing their search for the position. The city will hold a meeting for each candidate on June 13 and 16 at the City Council Chambers within City Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Leavenworth has been without a city administrator since October of 2021, shortly after hiring prior administrator Ana Cortez-Steiner in March of 2020. This was shortly after the mayor released the statement that he would expand his mayoral duties to include the day-to-day operations normally designated for the city administrator.

Back in March, the city held two similar meet and greet sessions for the position of Administrative Services Director, a modified position of the City Administrator position. City of Leavenworth Communications Analyst Christie Voos reports that that hiring process did not result in a hire.

Residents will have a chance to meet Michael Rose on June 13 and Matthew Selby on June 16.

Michael Rose has experience in emergency services, public and municipal service, along with a previous role as the Assistant Manager of Emergency Preparedness at Disneyland and municipal government experience within the City of Dana Point, an area in southern California.

He moved to northern Idaho to be closer to family and help manage the family ranch and just recently took a position as Director of Facilities at the Kitsap Regional Library in 2021.

Rose states that although he enjoys his current position, he is excited by the opportunity to be part of a tourist economy and jump back into municipal government.

Matthew Selby has municipal experience in Ashland and Acton, both within the state of Massachusetts.

Selby served as Director of Community Development and Health in Ashland that focused heavily on renewable energy, and then as Land Use and Economic Development Director in Acton, Mass., working primarily on affordable housing and employment housing opportunities for manufacturing companies.

Recently, Selby began work as an Interim Assistant City Manager for Yakima and hopes to carry over workforce housing opportunities to Leavenworth just as he did with Yakima.
