Over the last 25 years Captain Bly’s Educational Foundation in Leavenworth, has sponsored the John & Ruby Meyer Scholarship. The scholarships are designed for Students attending a Community College or other program that leads to certification.

Throughout the years the recipients have attended Beauty School, Welding, Nursing, Business, etc. One of the primary requirements for the scholarship is financial need. They also must have a plan to reach their goal. Over the last 25 years 100% of the students that received the scholarship have completed their course of study.

This year’s recipient is Nicholas Schafer. Nick is a hard working, highly motivated young man. In addition to completing all of his class work at Cascade High School, he has worked full time for two years for Dick Frits the owner of Beaver Valley Construction Company.

Nick will start his Electrical Lineman College classes in Meridian, Idaho on June 28. This 4 month program consists of 4 days a week of 10 hours a day classroom work. This portion is very demanding both physically and mentally. After the classroom study is completed he will have a 6 month apprentice program to complete before earning his Journeyman status.

In preparation for his future work Nick has been working and saving to help offset the $30,000, which is the cost of his program.
