CHS teacher named Regional Teacher of the Year

Posted

Cascade High School is beloved by the community for its outstanding facility, enthusiastic students and it's hardworking staff - recently, one member of the Cascade School District family was recognized for her hard work on a regional level. Malia Renner-Singer, Cascade High School social studies and Advancement Via Individual Determination teacher has been selected as North Central Educational Service District's 2020 Regional Teacher of the Year.
"I’m excited and grateful to be recognized as Regional Teacher of the Year for North Central Washington. Teaching is incredibly difficult but also incredibly rewarding," said Renner-Singer.
With 18 years of experience under belt and dedication to her students, Renner-Singer got the attention of NCESD committee that racked through nominees submitted across four counties.     "This award is a recognition of both the hard work and the importance of the work in directly impacting young people and their families," said Renner-Singer.
Not only does she teach students the ins and outs of social studies, but she also works to help prepare students for that next step in their education. AVID is an instrumental tool in helping students that have certain possible setbacks (first generation college students, financial need or underrepresented traditionally in the college setting) to reach that next level in their education path.
"For me, nothing is more meaningful than helping a first-generation college student complete a scholarship application or watching a group of 12th grade students struggle to understand a public policy problem or any of the other thousands of tasks that we teachers tackle every day," said Renner-Singer. "I love my profession and I’m passionate about what we teachers do—I’m thrilled to get to share this with others."
Each regional Teacher of the Year from every Educational Service District in Washington, will go onto compete for state honors, according to NCESD press release.
