Kids raise $100 for hospital

Posted

The unofficial Kids Rotary Club, made up of fourth graders Amelia Morgan, Nora Bedard and friends, donated $100 to Cascade Medical Foundation (CMF) to help the hospital.

The one hundred dollars was hard-earned during the warmer months through an eclectic mix of fundraising: lemonade stand combined with flea market and rock art gallery. The children set up along Titus Road, and customers included passersby who were walking, biking or in cars.

Amelia’s mom, Christine Jakobsen said, “They were self-organized and knew they wanted to raise money for a good cause, not for themselves.”

These budding nonprofit professionals have done other campaigns, including one for Upper Valley MEND and an earlier one for the hospital.

Amelia and Nora visited the CMF board during a recent Zoom board meeting. Amelia explained how she came up with the idea to do fundraising this last year. “I got tired of feeling like I was just a kid and not able to make a change in my community,” she said. “I realized, if I tried hard enough, I could make a change. It was helpful to have someone else there. Nora is really funny, so she helped me pass the time.”

CMF board chair Bob Jennings thanked them for their exemplary efforts, and the board members gave them a round of applause.
