Auditor seeks residents to write opposition statement for Feb. ballot measure

Posted

CHELAN COUNTY — The Chelan County Auditor’s Office is seeking residents to serve on an “Against” committee for a local ballot measure that will appear in the February 10, 2026 Special Election Local Voters’ Pamphlet.

The committee would be responsible for drafting the official opposition statement to the measure titled Chelan County – Funding Emergency Communication Systems and Facilities.

Under state law, districts proposing ballot measures are required to appoint committees to write arguments both for and against each measure. If a district does not appoint a committee for one side, the responsibility shifts to the county auditor to recruit residents willing to serve.

The Local Voters’ Pamphlet includes ballot titles, explanatory statements, arguments for and against each measure, and rebuttals. At least one committee member must be willing to have their name published in the pamphlet, and all committee members must reside within the district covered by the measure.

Residents interested in serving on the “Against” committee must submit their name and materials to the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. Submissions can be made by email to auditor@co.chelan.wa.us or by calling 509-667-6808 to arrange dropping off forms.

Information on submission requirements and pamphlet deadlines is available through the Elections section of the Chelan County website.
