Aug. 4 election ballots hit mailboxes

CHELAN COUNTY — Ballots for the Aug. 4 Primary Election have been mailed, says Chelan County Auditor Brandt Cappell.

This year's primary features federal, legislative, judicial and county races ahead of the November general election.

Six candidates are seeking election for the Congressional District 8 seat, which is currently held by Representative Kim Schrier. The two-year district term spans both sides of the mountains, representing portions of Chelan, Douglas, King, Kittitas, Pierce and Snohomish counties. 

Both Legislative District 12 state representative seats are contested in the primary. Incumbent Brian Burnett faces Stacey Willoughby for Position 1, while incumbent Mike Steele faces Adam James and Maggie Adams for Position 2.

Fourteen candidates are competing across four different Washington Supreme Court justice positions.

Countywide races also include assessor, auditor and clerk. Current Sheriff Mike Morrison is going head-to-head with Stan Langlow, while Doug Miller and Rick Viall compete for treasurer. Nathan Hellisgo and Clint Strand are challenging incumbent Shon Smith for his County Commissioner District 2 seat.

New voters can still register or make updates by mail, over the phone, by email or online until July 27. Starting July 28, new voter registrations or existing registration updates must be completed in-person at any elections office before 8 p.m. on Aug. 4.Chelan County Elections Office is located at 350 Orondo Ave., Level 3 Suite 306, Wenatchee.

Voters have until 8 p.m. on Aug. 4 to postmark or deposit their ballots into an official ballot drop box. If you haven’t received your ballot by July 22, contact the election’s office at 509-667-

Leavenworth City Hall: 700 Highway 2, Leavenworth, WA 98826 Outdoor Box: 24 Hours a day. Drive-thru access.

Manson Public Library: 80 Wapato Way, Manson, WA 98831 Outdoor Box: 24 Hours a day. Walk-up access.

Chelan County Courthouse Indoor Boxes: 350 Orondo Ave., Wenatchee, WA 98801 available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 17 to Aug. 3, and on Election Day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. located in Licensing and Recording Office Level 2 and Elections Office Level 3.

Accessible voting equipment, allowing voters with disabilities to vote independently, is available at the Chelan County Auditor’s Office.
