“We Bring You an Hour of Darkness” is set in 1993 in the fictional ski town of Franklin, Colorado, where a ski company’s plans to build a large resort in a protected wilderness area lead to escalating conflict. After a series of eco-terrorist attacks target infrastructure and property, a group of reporters at the town’s struggling newspaper investigates the crimes amid political pressure and threats to the paper’s survival. The novel centers on editor Tish Threadgill as she confronts forces seeking to shut down the publication while uncovering a mystery tied closely to the community.
Bourne is the author of “We Bring You an Hour of Darkness,” scheduled for release by DoppelHouse Press in October 2025. His previous novel, “Blithedale Canyon,” was published in 2022 by Regal House.
He has published short fiction in literary magazines including december and Tin House and is a longtime contributing editor at Poets & Writers Magazine. His nonfiction work has appeared in the New York Times, the Globe & Mail, The Economist, Literary Hub and Salon.
Bourne grew up in Northern California and lives in Vancouver, Canada, where he teaches writing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
