Cashmere man arrested after pursuit following domestic disturbance report

CASHMERE — A 41-year-old Cashmere man was arrested Sunday after allegedly fleeing deputies and leading law enforcement on two pursuits that ended when spike strips disabled his vehicle, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded June 21 to a reported domestic disturbance in the 100 block of East Pleasant Avenue, where a woman told authorities she was being followed and threatened by Michael L. Long Jr.

While responding to the scene, deputies spotted Long leaving the area in a vehicle. When deputies attempted a traffic stop as part of the investigation, Long accelerated and fled, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said Long led deputies eastbound on U.S. Highway 2 toward Wenatchee and drove repeatedly into oncoming traffic lanes before entering a residential area near School Street.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office terminated the pursuit after determining Long's driving behavior posed an immediate danger to the public and because deputies already knew his identity.

A short time later, Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies located Long's vehicle and initiated a second pursuit. Authorities deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle and allowing officers to take Long into custody without further incident.

Long was charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and domestic violence stalking.

Additional charges from other agencies involved in the second pursuit and arrest are pending, according to the sheriff's office.
