WENATCHEE — Chelan County PUD will begin its annual inspection of high-voltage transmission lines on Thursday, covering a span of 300 miles from Stevens Pass to Wenatchee and Palisades to Manson. Residents in the area may notice a helicopter flying at low altitudes along the power lines as part of the routine inspection process.
The PUD stated that the inspection flights are expected to continue for the next two weeks, subject to weather conditions. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure the integrity and reliability of the transmission infrastructure.
Chelan PUD serves over 50,000 customers in Chelan County and operates a network of hydroelectric dams, generating facilities, and transmission lines. Regular inspections are a critical aspect of maintaining the safety and efficiency of the electrical grid.
