City of Leavenworth to cut ribbon on Front Street Park Restrooms and Stairway

LEAVENWORTH – The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Front Street Park Restroom and Stairway Expansion Project. The ribbon cutting will take place in front of the restrooms at 10:30 a.m. on July 1.

The project was pursued to address capacity and maintenance needs while improving wayfinding and pedestrian traffic, and included increased stalls, reconstructed stairs, and a covered area above the restroom. The new design switched the locations of the male and female restrooms in order to expand the female restroom to have seven stalls and five sinks, as well as added a family/gender-neutral single stall restroom. The covered area above the restrooms will extend over the concrete stairs between Front Street and US-2.

The project faced slight delays last year after only one initial bid for construction came in well over the original $1.2 million estimate. The project’s architect reassessed the estimate to $1.5 million, and the city re-opened the bid. Two months later, the city accepted a construction bid for $1.97 million dollars, paid for through the city’s Lodging Tax Fund. Construction began in August 2024, and continued throughout the winter and spring.

The Front Street restrooms are central to downtown, located next to the Gazebo and Front Street Park.
