LEAVENWORTH — The City of Leavenworth’s annual Community Block Party will return to the Osborn Playfield from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21. The Osborn Playfield is located on Orchard Street, between Evans Street and Birch Street.
The Community Block Party is part of the quarterly Community Engagement Nights hosted by the city. It began in 2019 as a way for the city to bring the community together, promote local initiatives and resources, and foster a sense of neighborhood camaraderie.
“Community is at the heart of our quarterly Engagement Nights, and the Block Party is a perfect example of bringing residents, local organizations, and public agencies together. As a bonus, you'll see city staff and council members behind the grill, flipping burgers or handing out chips and cookies!” said Communications Manager Kara Raftery.
Last year’s block party brought in a record number of attendees and participating groups. The city estimated between 700 and 750 people attended, compared to an estimated 400 attendees the prior year. The number of informational booths also increased from a handful of featured city initiatives to 16 tables of community businesses, organizations, and projects.
This year, it will feature nearly 30 community organizations and agencies in addition to showcasing city initiatives, which include Safer Streets & Roads for Everyone, a downtown pedestrian plaza, river recreation, a downtown parking garage, the 2026 Comprehensive Plan, and the Parks and Recreation Plan. Participating organizations include local arts, healthcare, environmental, social services, and civic groups, along with county and state agencies.
The event will have a number of all ages activities, with a bouncy house, waterslide, and playground available for the younger crowd. There will also be a “Touch-a-Truck” area featuring various vehicles, including an ambulance, a mobile medical clinic, and a fire engine. City staff and council will be cooking and serving the community burgers, brats, and other goods.
Non-profits, service organizations, government agencies, and public entities are still able to sign up for a booth at the upcoming event. The city encourages interested groups to contact Courtney Porter via email at cporter@cityofleavenworth.com as soon as possible.
