Douglas County homicide investigation leads to arrest

EAST WENATCHEE — In the early hours of Feb. 1, Douglas County deputies were called to the scene of an unresponsive male found near a vehicle on the 1700 block of Rock Island Road, East Wenatchee. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 35-year-old man, identified as an East Wenatchee resident, deceased with injuries suggesting a gunshot wound.

The vicinity of Rock Island Road and South Kentucky Avenue was closed for investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol detectives. The investigation remains active, with officials urging anyone with information to contact Detective Taylor Melton at (509) 888-6822.

Further developments occurred on Feb. 19, when Douglas County Detectives, aided by East Cascade SWAT, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, and Washington State Patrol, arrested 34-year-old Travis E. Collins in Leavenworth, WA. Collins, a resident of Leavenworth, was apprehended without incident on Deep Powder Lane and is charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of Julio C. Garcia-Ramirez. Collins was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center after his arrest.
