Everett climber found near the Enchantments

Posted

Chelan County Chief Adam Musgrove confirmed the identity of a deceased climber to be Dr. Richard Thurmer, who was found near Dragontail Peak in the Enchantments on March 30.

He was found at the base of the Triple Couloir route and was recovered on March 31, a day after his discovery. Musgrove states that the cause of death was due to a fall from the cliffside.

Chelan County Mountain Rescue had difficulty retrieving him due to high winds and inclement weather. He was later carried out via helicopter rescue.

Dr. Thurmer’s family was reported missing on March 28, leaving for Leavenworth the day prior.

His last known GPS location was on the south shore of Lake Colchuck, with his vehicle located at the Eightmile Trailhead.

Dr. Thurmer was 66 years-old and was a family doctor based in Everett, WA. He was an experienced climber and had previously climbed the seven highest summits of the world.
