Fireworks are banned in Chelan County. Here’s where you can still see a good light show

CHELAN COUNTY — Chelan County officials warn that setting off personal fireworks can lead to fines, jail time and could even spark a wildfire. Still, there are plenty of ways to safely enjoy the Fourth of July holiday, with permitted fireworks displays, drone shows and laser light events happening throughout North Central Washington.

In Manson, the chamber of commerce and fire department are joining forces to produce what they say is the largest fireworks celebration in the region. The 47th annual celebration will have live music around 7 p.m. in Manson Bay, with fireworks starting at 10:15 p.m.

Around 10 p.m. on July 5, Lake Chelan will have its first-ever drone show to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Hundreds of illuminated drones will tell the story of Lake Chelan and the nation through light and motion in the night sky. KOZI Radio will have synchronized music to bring the show to life. Tune into 93.5FM, 100.9FM, 103.1FM or 1230AM. Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce recommends watching from Don Morse Park.

The Wenatchee Valley 4th of July event will start the evening of July 3 with food, music and an outdoor movie at Walla Walla Park. Festivities will continue into July 4 with food, entertainment and a cornhole tournament. Fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m.

In Leavenworth, the Upper Valley Community Celebration will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with activities, food and interactive history. The night will conclude with a special laser light show and more surprises. The free event runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Alpine Lakes Elementary.

Beyond Fourth of July weekend, a nightly laser light show called “One River, Many Voices” can be seen at Grand Coulee Dam at 10 p.m. through July 31. The show will start at 9:30 p.m. from August through the end of September.

In Quincy, Sunserra Golf Course at Crescent Bar will host a Fourth of July concert followed by a fireworks grand finale. The ticketed concert will feature Santa Poco from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Dean James from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with fireworks to follow.

Further south, George will have its 69th annual Independence Day celebration all day, ending with a fireworks show around 10 p.m. The full-day event will have the Cherry Bomb Run, the world’s largest cherry pie, music, activities, market vendors and more.

Chelan County has severe consequences for discharging fireworks, resulting in a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail. Additionally, the fireworks user can be held responsible if a home is burned down or a firefighter is injured in the incident of a fire.

Residents can report fireworks by calling RiverCom’s business line at 509-663-9911. Only call 911 to report an injury from or a fire caused by fireworks, not to make a noise or fireworks complaint.
