LEAVENWORTH — Cascade Athletic Booster Club is raising money for Jose Solis, the bus driver who was injured from a collision while transporting the Cascade Kodiak wrestling team.
The bus was traveling northbound on the morning of Dec. 6 when a truck traveling the opposite direction lost control and swerved into the bus. Solis was injured, but the wrestling team and coach walked away unharmed. According to Washington State Patrol, the driver of the pickup was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
“So many Cascade families owe this guy a BIG hug at the very least for saving a bus load of our athletes,” Booster Club President Becky Driscoll, wrote in an announcement. “Our Cascade Athletic Booster Club is doing local fundraising to help him bridge the gap from injured and non working until he is healthy enough to return to work.”
The club is accepting $15 donations for meals for Solis, as well as amounts of $20, $50 and $100 to cover his out of pocket expenses. Additionally, Cascade School District added that kids’ notes, cards and drawings for Solis could be dropped off at the district office or bus barn.
“We are incredibly grateful to our bus driver, Jose, for doing his best to keep our team safe under the difficult circumstances. Despite navigating his own injuries, his upmost [sic] concern was our students. We wish Jose a speedy recovery and encourage all who are able to support his recovery!” CHS Wrestling Coach D’Andre Vasquez wrote in support of the fundraiser.
Donations can be made on the Cascade Athletic Booster Club website: cascadeboosterclub.org.
