Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue receives $75,000 for wildfire mitigation efforts

Posted

PLAIN – Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue was awarded $75,000 to support ongoing wildfire mitigation strategies throughout the district.

The grant was awarded through the Action, Implementation and Mitigation (AIM) program, “an action-based, non-nonsense, group of wildfire mitigation practitioners focused on developing real solutions to the wildfire crisis.” Grant awards range from $10,000 to $75,000, with a required 100 percent match contribution by the applicant. The competitive grant program is supported by funding from Coalitions and Collaboratives (COCO) and the U.S. Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management.

“The [competitive] application leverages our strong history of work, collaboration, and planned projects protecting private land,” LWFR wrote in the announcement.

AIM was created by COCO in partnership with federal, state and regional partners, aiming to accelerate fire adaptation concepts and reduce the risk from wildfire across the U.S. Grant funding is part of a larger strategy by AIM, which also involves on-site engagement, mentoring and training, ongoing support and technical expertise.
