LEAVENWORTH – The Leavenworth Alphorn Association was named Alphorn Association of the Year by the Alphorn Association of North America (AANA). The association earned recognition for its contributions to the alphorn community and its dedication to preserving and promoting the ancient art of the alphorn.
The Leavenworth Alphorns is a volunteer nonprofit community association that promotes the traditional instrument through its Northwest Alphorn Workshop and Retreat, Leavenworth International Alphorn Festival, youth programs and scholarship, and performances.
“The Leavenworth Alphorn Association exemplifies the true spirit of the alphorn community,” said AANA Board Chair Sean Slatter, in a press release. “Leavenworth’s passion for protecting and preserving the alphorn is the benchmark for all alphorn organizations. We are honored to recognize the incredible work of the Leavenworth Alphorn Association. We look forward to celebrating their achievements during the 2025 Leavenworth International Alphorn Festival.”
The AANA’s mission aims to cultivate the growth of the alphorn community across the continent, promoting cultural exchange, performance opportunities, and educational resources for alphorn players and organizations. Its recognition of the Leavenworth Alphorns will include an engraved plaque and a $2,500 cash award to support its continued work in alphorn performance, education and cultural outreach.
Additionally, AANA will host its first annual gathering at the Leavenworth International Alphorn Festival, connecting players and organizations from throughout North America. The festival is scheduled for May 24 and 25.
