LEAVENWORTH — The Osborn Playfield came alive with activity for the City of Leavenworth’s annual Community Block Party on Aug. 21.
The block party is a part of the quarterly Community Engagement Nights hosted by the city. It began in 2019 as a way for the city to bring the community together, promote local initiatives and resources, and foster a sense of neighborhood camaraderie.
In 2024, the block party doubled in size from previous years, bringing in over 700 people and 16 booths. This year, the event's size well surpassed previous numbers, with an estimated 900 attendees and 50 participating organizations and agencies.
Approximately 40 booths were set up for community members to learn about local initiatives and city projects. The tables featured local organizations and agencies such as the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, Cascade Medical Center, and Upper Valley MEND. They also provided information on city projects, including the parking garage, pedestrian plaza, and the 2026 Comprehensive Plan.
As community members enjoyed their meals and strolled the booths, the younger crowds flocked to the inflatable water slide, bouncy house, touch-a-truck area, and a variety of activities played on the grass.
The block party was a collaborative effort of city coordination and community involvement. Over 35 city staff and elected officials volunteered at the event, which included serving approximately 600 hamburgers, 300 hot dogs, 620 chips and 840 cookies. First responders brought apparatuses for the touch-a-truck area. Local environmental nonprofit Waste Loop provided composting and recycling; Sustainable Bike CoOp looked after bikes and helped with tuneups. Additionally, leftover food items were donated to Upper Valley MEND’s Community Cupboard.
