Leavenworth decides on two city council seats in Nov. 4 election

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — Two Leavenworth City Council members will retain their seats after receiving overwhelming support in the preliminary results of the Nov. 4 election.

For the sixth seat, current City Council member Clint Strand leads former councilmember Marco Aurilio with nearly 60 percent of the vote, or 254 to 171 votes. Strand has served on the council since January 2018. Aurilio, who served on city council from 2022 to 2023, lost his bid for reelection to current councilmember Travis McMaster in 2024.

Ron Duncan and incumbent Mike Bedard went  head-to-head once again for the fourth seat. When former City Councilmember Rhona Baron resigned from her two-year term Oct. 2024, Duncan and Bedard were two of seven candidates to apply for the vacant position; council ultimately appointed Bedard to serve the remainder of the term.

In this election, Bedard held his seat with overwhelming voter support, receiving nearly 70 percent of the vote (285 votes to 123).

Rob Eaton, who ran unopposed for the seventh Leavenworth City Council seat, will be the council’s newest member come January.

With 13,637 ballots tabulated, only 1,258 are left to count in the Nov. 4 election. The next ballot count is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.
