Leavenworth Library to host night sky storytelling event for Dark Sky Week

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — The Leavenworth Library, in partnership with the Wenatchee Valley Astronomy Club, will host a night of storytelling and stargazing as part of Dark Sky Week on Friday, April 17.

The event, titled Stellar Stories, is scheduled from 9 to 10 p.m. at Lion’s Club Park, located next to the library. Organizers invite community members to gather on the lawn for an evening that blends astronomy, history and storytelling under the night sky.

Participants are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and settle in as local astronomy experts and storytellers share myths, cultural traditions and historical perspectives tied to the constellations. The program aims to highlight how people across generations have interpreted and found meaning in the stars.

The event is designed to be informal and accessible, offering a relaxed setting for attendees to connect with the night sky while learning about astronomy and its cultural significance.

Attendees are asked to arrive about 10 minutes early to set up on the lawn and are encouraged to dress for the weather. To help preserve optimal viewing conditions, organizers recommend bringing a red light and limiting the use of white light to emergencies.

The event is free and open to the public.
