CHELAN COUNTY — Chelan County Deputies arrested a 58-year-old Leavenworth man on July 9, citing violent threats against the Social Security Office in Wenatchee.
Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said the investigation began after it received an alert from a California-based Social Security Administration office about a threatening phone call. The suspect, Kenneth D. Mayberry, was said to be angry over a missing check and allegedly threatened to ram his vehicle into the Wenatchee office at 129 S. Chelan Ave.
CCSO said the Social Security Administration had obtained an audio recording of the suspect threatening to track down and shoot employees responsible for withholding his check. Through investigation, a county deputy discovered two prior reports of threats to the local Social Security Office that were handled by Wenatchee Police.
Given Mayberry’s escalating threats, CCSO said it had probable cause to arrest Mayberry for threats to bomb or injure property under RCW 9.61.160. Deputies contacted Mayberry, who was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.
