Leavenworth Planning Commission seeks new member for advisory role

LEAVENWORTH — The City of Leavenworth is seeking applicants for an open position on its Planning Commission, following the departure of commissioner Janessa Ruckle.

The vacancy is for Position No. 1 on the citizen advisory board, with the term beginning in February 2025 and running through April 2026. The Planning Commission plays a crucial role in the city's development, being responsible for long-range planning and making legislative policy recommendations to the City Council.

According to the city's press release, commissioners "help achieve the community's vision by developing the goals and policies of the City's Comprehensive Plan and through updates to the Leavenworth Municipal Code and Shoreline Master Program."

Eligible candidates must either reside within Leavenworth city limits or own property within the city limits or Urban Growth Area (UGA). The commission holds monthly meetings at City Hall on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM, with sessions typically lasting between 1.5 to 2 hours, though they may run longer depending on specific topics under discussion.

Interested parties have until 4:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025, to submit their letters of interest. Applications can be submitted via email, mail, or in person to City Clerk Andrea Fischer at City Hall.
