LEAVENWORTH — The Greater Leavenworth Museum invites the community to celebrate the 100 years of the historic Chumstick Grange on Oct. 8.
For over 150 years, granges have been an integral part of American history, serving as community hubs, legislative advocates, and educational resources for agricultural communities. The Chumstick Grange was no different, providing farmer education, support and connection in the heart of Leavenworth. Prior to becoming a grange, the building itself dates back to the early 1900s, when it served as a train depot for the Great Northern Railway.
The celebration will have a potluck, Grange members provided, followed by presentations of grange history and their benefits to the Leavenworth community over the last 100 years. More recently, the Chumstick Grange has provided a place for community gatherings, hosting jam sessions, educational workshops, craft fairs, historical exhibits, and community service projects. During the 1990s, it boasted dances and Open Mic Nights.
The 100-year celebration will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall: 621 Front Street, Leavenworth.
