LEAVENWORTH — Short-term Front Street repairs to reduce multiple trip hazards and general poor conditions of the existing streetscape are anticipated to take place between May 18 and 29.
According to the city, Public Works is working to address these issues on Front Street, which will require a series of construction contracts over the summer to fix.
Anticipated work for the end of May includes replacement of the concrete ‘dance floor’ in front of the Front Street Gazebo, crosswalk and sidewalk repair, a seal coat on Front Street, and addressing several locations of ‘wavy bricks.’
Temporary and intermittent road closures along Front Street and associated intersections will occur during construction. According to the city, the project is currently out to bid, and planned road closure information will become available once a contractor is officially onboarded. Closure updates and more information can be found on the City of Leavenworth’s project page under “2026 Front Street & US Hwy 2 Improvements.”
The work is planned to occur from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. In a notice to special use permit (SUP) holders on Front Street, the city does not anticipate needing to clear Front Street from curb to curb for more than a few consecutive days for seal coating and associated repair efforts. SUP holders will be reimbursed for the number of days the SUP is displaced from the city’s right-of-way for the work to occur.
Remaining work includes repairing the irrigation system in the ‘bulb outs’ and landscape planting. This work as the scope is being refined, according to the city.
