LEAVENWORTH — Over 50 Leavenworth demonstrators gathered on Jan. 11 to protest the recent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The protest was organized in alignment with the nationally coordinated the “ICE Out For Good Weekend of Action,” which was put together by a coalition of organizations: Indivisible, MoveOn Civic Action, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Voto Latino, United We Dream, 50501, the Disappeared in America Campaign of the Not Above the Law coalition, and other partner organizations.
Organizers said the mobilization was in response to the recent killing of Renee Good, who was shot by an ICE agent in Minnesota on Jan. 7, in addition to “the months-long pattern of unchecked violence and abuse in marginalized communities across America.” In Leavenworth, demonstrators held candles and photos of those recently killed by ICE agents.
