WENATCHEE — RiverCom 911 is continuing efforts to address staffing shortages by actively recruiting new telecommunicators and offering a free employment test later this month for prospective applicants.
RiverCom, which handles emergency dispatch and 911 communications for Chelan and Douglas counties, announced the hiring push as the agency works to maintain staffing levels for what it describes as a critical public safety role.
Telecommunicators are responsible for answering 911 calls, coordinating emergency response efforts and serving as the communication link between the public and first responders during police, fire and medical emergencies.
“At the center of this mission is the Telecommunicator,” RiverCom stated in a release announcing the recruitment effort, describing the position as both demanding and community-focused.
RiverCom Director Doug Jones emphasized both the importance of the work and the long-term career opportunities available within the agency.
“As a RiverCom Telecommunicator professional, not only are you a vital part of our first responder community saving lives every day, but you also earn a good salary and receive a great benefit and retirement package,” Jones said.
To support recruitment efforts, RiverCom will offer a free employment test May 30 in East Wenatchee. The testing process serves as the first step for individuals interested in applying for the position.
The agency provides dispatch and emergency communications services for law enforcement, fire districts and EMS agencies throughout Chelan and Douglas counties, coordinating responses during emergencies ranging from medical calls and structure fires to traffic collisions and law enforcement incidents.
