Search for Travis Decker scaled back, criminal investigation continues

Posted

CHELAN COUNTY — After nearly two months of looking for triple homicide suspect Travis Decker, authorities say they are reducing their search footprint.

Decker is wanted on three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in connection with the deaths of his daughters: Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia Decker.

The bodies of the girls were discovered on June 2 in a remote area near Icicle Road outside Leavenworth, days after they were last seen with their father during a scheduled visitation on May 30.

Over the last two months, law enforcement personnel and search and rescue organizations have extensively searched wilderness areas surrounding the crime scene, primarily focusing on the Blewett Pass and Enhancements area between Chelan and Kittitas Counties. The search has involved swift water teams, K-9 teams with various disciplines, air assets, and personnel on foot.

“As of today, Mr. Decker has still not been located, and there is insufficient information to suggest that he is alive, nor if he is deceased,” Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) wrote in a July 25 update.

According to CCSO, the most recent search led teams to the Blewett Pass area, north of the Mineral Springs campground. However, potential evidence and intelligence gathered in the area was inconclusive.

Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant when recreating in these areas, especially as bear hunting season opens in August. Suspicious activity, persons, or items should be reported to 911 immediately. CCSO asks that the location is marked using GPS or another method, and to even take pictures if it is safe to do so.

While the search continues at a smaller scale, CCSO Detectives are continuing to process evidence and follow up on leads or tips as they come in.

The United States Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading directly to Decker’s arrest. Anyone with information about Decker or his whereabouts should contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office, the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center at 1-800-336-0102, or USMS Tips: www.usmarshals.gov/tips.

Decker, 32, of the Wenatchee area, is described as a white male, 5-foot-8, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Authorities advise that Decker should be considered dangerous and warn residents not to attempt to approach or contact him.
