LEAVENWORTH — Seven Cascade Medical Center employees have been awarded over $8,000 in scholarships through the Mark Judy Memorial Caregiver Education Fund, helping to advance their skills through professional training, certifications and degree programs.
The scholarship program honors the legacy of former hospital administrator and Cascade Medical Foundation (CMF) board member Mark Judy. This is the third year of the scholarship program, which was created to help grow the skills of highly coveted health care workers at Cascade Medical.
“We are ecstatic with the caliber of the scholarship applications this year,” said CMF Board Member Bob Adamson. “This is an excellent group of people. They are forward thinking, community minded and are looking for ways to go above and beyond. We’re honored that we can continue Mark’s legacy and offer them some assistance.”
This year, the scholarships were distributed to hospital staff across four departments: the clinic, laboratory, emergency medical services (EMS) and the rehab center.
Recipients include Clinic Manager Courtney Grimm, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, clinical social worker Aisha Houghton, who is pursuing certification in Gottman Method relationship therapy, and dietitian Katelin Limon, who is pursuing certification in weight management for children and adults through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Additional recipients include occupational therapist Sarah Peery, who is pursuing certifications in trauma-informed interventions and cognitive behavioral therapy, and laboratory technician Katie Larsen, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in laboratory science from University of Cincinnati.
Clinic nurse Kayla Talley will take Spanish language coursework at Wenatchee Valley College, and EMS provider Byron Walker will pursue paramedic training at Central Washington University.
Cascade Medical Foundation continues to grow the fund to ensure long-term scholarship availability. For information, visit cascademedicalfoundation.org.
