Students in Cascade School District return to school

Posted

LEAVENWORTH – First and second graders returned to Peshastin-Dryden Elementary, a week earlier than their younger T-K and Kindergarten counterparts. Students at Alpine Lakes Elementary arrived early by car, foot and bike to join their friends on the playground before class. Sixth graders at Icicle River nervously awaited their first days of middle school outside, while Cascade High School seniors entered their last year of primary education.

This year, students district-wide are returning to the classroom without personal electronic devices, including cellphones, smart watches, and headphones. After a number of discussions, surveys and focus groups over the last school year, the district decided to require these devices to remain turned off and in backpacks while in school. District leaders say the change aims to reduce distractions, improve focus, and support healthier classroom connections.
