OLYMPIA — The Washington State Board of Education announced it is seeking applications for a student representative for the 2024-2026 term. The board is looking for a sophomore prepared to engage actively in educational policy and decision-making.

Candidates must be enrolled in a Washington State public or private school for the duration of their term and be a current sophomore at the time of selection. The role requires a commitment to improving K-12 public education, the ability to allocate time for board responsibilities, including attendance at all State Board of Education meetings, and a strong academic and extracurricular background. Applicants are also expected to manage their schoolwork concurrently with their duties on the board.

The deadline for applications is March 29. Interested students can find the application form and further details on the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) website (https://awsleaders.org/sbe)

Donalda Brantley, the current Senior Student Board Representative, highlighted the support provided, saying, "You have the best support and very kind people to support you along the way. Remember you are there to share your voice and what you have to say truly matters."

The board encourages educators to motivate eligible students to seize this unique chance to voice the concerns and perspectives of their peers in the state's educational framework. For additional information or inquiries, contact sbe@k12.wa.us.
