LEAVENWORTH – Wenatchee River Institute’s (WRI) second annual Día de los Reyes celebration will return on Jan. 4 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Día de los Reyes, or Three Kings Day, is a religious holiday and cultural tradition celebrated throughout Latin America that symbolizes the end of Christmas on Jan. 6. The inaugural celebration last year brought in 150 guests, with numbers expected to be between 300 and 500 people this year. The event is free to attend with no registration required.
Participants can enjoy traditional Mexican foods such as a pozole dinner and Rosca de Reyes, guided nature walks, children’s activities and gifts, dance and musical performances, and presentations from cultural leaders.
“We hope participants will leave inspired to continue to get to know, care for, and celebrate the diverse social and natural aspects of our communities,” the event’s website stated.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. with snowshoe walks and children’s activities at the WRI campus. There will be a procession to the Leavenworth Festhalle at 3:30 p.m. Activities will continue throughout the afternoon, providing opportunities for guests of all ages to engage with nature, culture, and community. Food, dance performances, and a Three Kings presentation will follow until 6 p.m. Another procession at 6:30 p.m. will lead to Kiosco, or the Front Street Gazebo, where participants will enjoy a performance by Kataleya Garcia and a Mariachi performance.
