Public forum scheduled

Attention: Property Tax Payers residing within the Leavenworth City Limits. There is a “Public Forum” on Nov. 7, 6:30 p.m., regarding the (MFTE) Multi-family Tax Exemption Program.  The public will have the option to attend in person at City Hall or via Zoom.  Note: Erin Fonville from the Assessor’s Office will be on hand to explain the MFTE program and to answer all your questions.

The MFTE program is a "shift of tax obligations” associated with affordable housing units.  The offsetting of the taxes thus becomes the responsibility of all other taxpayers residing within the Leavenworth city limits.  The tax obligation would be a minimum of 12 years, with the city strongly considering a longer duration of 20 years.

As a council member (one of seven) ...I am not comfortable making a decision to add even one penny to your property taxes without hearing from the citizens who will be financially impacted.
