LEAVENWORTH — Zoie Burpee had a hat trick in each of Cascade girls soccer's two home wins this week: a 9-1 rout of Tonasket on Senior Night and a shutout of Oroville. The Kodiaks then lost 1-0 at unbeaten Cashmere.
Five seniors scored Tuesday, Oct. 13, as Cascade beat Tonasket 9-1. Burpee and Matilda Swan each scored three goals, and the game ended in the 60th minute under the mercy rule.
Cascade honored nine seniors and their families before the game: Sally Fourtney, Wren Knight, Matilda Swan, Georgia Holm, Kate Smith, Allison Romero Garcia, Ada Missal, Amaya Blue and Zoie Burpee.
Tonasket scored first, 11 minutes into the game. Burpee answered two minutes later, finishing a bouncing ball off a corner kick. Two minutes after that, Missal chipped a ball out wide to Skye Blue, whose cross found Swan for a tap-in and a 2-1 lead. Swan slipped through the defense two minutes later and scored at the near post, giving the Kodiaks three goals in six minutes.
Swan completed a first-half hat trick in the 33rd minute with a low, hard shot inside the near post, and Cascade led 4-1 at halftime.
Burpee added two goals in the second half for her own hat trick. Amaya Blue sliced through defenders to score, and Knight settled the ball with a header to herself and volleyed it into the side netting from the 18-yard line. Missal ended the game in the 60th minute, curling a shot with her left foot from 25 yards out into the top corner.
Outside backs Holm and Romero Garcia played strong defense, and Smith was in goal, according to a recap by Cascade JV coach Steve Mac.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, Burpee and Sofia Vasta each had hat tricks as Cascade shut out Oroville in a game stopped after 60 minutes under the mercy rule. The Kodiaks led 8-0 at halftime, with Vasta and Burpee scoring six of the first-half goals. A heavily adjusted lineup kept the shutout in the second half, Mac said.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, Cascade lost 1-0 in a nonleague match at Cashmere, which improved to 14-0.
The Kodiaks are 10-4-1 overall and 3-0 in Caribou Trail League play.
