Local Author Schmitten to speak about his new book

On Thursday, April 27 local author Rollie Schmitten will present his newly published book, Greater Lake Wenatchee Area History, sharing excerpts, photos, and stories from the Lake Wenatchee area. Rollie’s presentation will be at an event at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts' Snowy Owl Theatre on Thursday,  and will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. A book-signing and Q&A will follow Rollie’s presentation.

Schmitten is the fourth generation of his family with a presence in the Lake Wenatchee area. His family’s time in the area began in 1917 and included the Schmitten Lumber Company. His first book, Lake Wenatchee Early History, introduced in 2020, included pioneer stories of the Lake Wenatchee area. His newest book, Greater Lake Wenatchee Area History, broadens the scope to include areas from Stevens Pass and Merritt, to the far reaches of the Trinity Mine.

Along with a rich complement of photographs procured from local families, the Greater Leavenworth Museum, and the University of Washington’s photo archives, he will reflect on stories from the various chapters of the new 21-chapter book which are closely related to the Leavenworth area.

The event is free for attendees, however donations to the Greater Leavenworth Museum will be greatly appreciated at the door.

The book, Greater Lake Wenatchee History, has a publisher's suggested price of $39.99, with online presales, or sales at the event, discounted to $34.99. Additionally, David Severance has graciously offered to donate $10 for every book sale to the museum.
