Chelan County Elections will keep counting ballots in the coming days, including mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day, and results can change. The county is scheduled to certify the election Nov. 24.

The winner will serve a two-year term.

Schrier, a Democrat, has represented the 8th District since January 2019 and is seeking another two-year term. Meline, a Leavenworth small-business owner making his first run for public office, is running as a Republican.

Schrier has campaigned on protecting health care, supporting agriculture, lowering grocery and energy costs and securing money for regional infrastructure. Meline has emphasized relief for small businesses, fiscal conservatism, active forest management to reduce wildfire risk and stricter border enforcement.

The district crosses the Cascades, taking in Chelan and Kittitas counties along with parts of King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Chelan County results reflect only a portion of the district's vote.

In the Aug. 4 primary, Schrier drew 48.4% of the Chelan County vote and Meline 20.6% in a six-candidate field.
